These scholarships are for international students enrolling in the Pathway programmes in 2023.
Pathways programme scholarships for students of Māori or Polynesian descent
The POPO Foundation Scholarship Programme is for Polynesian students and the Tū Kahika programme is for Māori students.
Both of these programmes are designed to get more Māori and Pacific Islanders in to the professional health services industry.
These students will have comprehensive support in the form of financial assistance, academic support, a strong group focus and a dedicated support person (kaiarahi).
Our support team have passion for improving the health and well-being of Pacific and Māori People, and will do all they can to improve your chances of success.

POPO Foundation Scholarship Programme
The POPO Foundation Scholarship Programme is a Health Sciences support programme for Pacific students studying the Pathways Health Science course at Otago.
POPO students receive a guaranteed place in a University of Otago residential college. POPO students also receive financial assistance towards their accommodation fees at a University of Otago residential college as well as their Pathways programme tuition fees.
The programme POPO students are part of includes academic, mentoring, and pastoral support to help students prepare themselves for the Health Science First Year course or another health related programme.

Tū Kahika programme scholarship
The University of Otago Tū Kahika Scholarship is a two semester (from February to October) Health Sciences programme.
Tū Kahika is run within the Pathways programme, and prepares Māori students academically for their first year of tertiary study and a future career in Māori health.
As a Tū Kahika student, you will receive guaranteed accommodation in a Residential College, and financial assistance towards your tuition fees and accommodation costs.
The name Tū Kahika comes from a southern variation on the name of the kahikatea tree, which grows well with the support of others around it.
