Environmental chamber – GENESIS

The Environmental Simulation Suite is able to simulate a variety of extreme environmental conditions by altering temperature, humidity and altitude.

These conditions make it perfect for research into the physiological effects of extreme conditions or for acclimatising to these conditions for work or sport.

Measuring 4m × 5m, the Environmental Simulation Suite can accommodate multiple participants at once.

The Global Energetics and Environmental Simulation Suite (GENESIS) is New Zealand's first whole room calorimeter and environmental simulation suite.

The suite is also a Whole Body Calorimeter, able to conduct gold standard assessments of energy expenditure, particularly useful in obesity and diabetes research fields. The size of the room also makes it suitable for longer duration studies.

GENESIS capabilities

Temperature -10 to +50 ºC
Humidity 5% to 95% RH
Simulated altitude Up to 5,400 m

The suite is used for both research and athletic training.
