Professor Harlene Hayne
Vice-Chancellor
Professor Harlene Hayne was appointed Vice-Chancellor of the University of Otago in 2011, having previously been the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Enterprise) and Head of the Psychology Department. She has been employed by the University of Otago since 1992.
As Vice-Chancellor she continues to maintain an active research programme and she publishes widely in the area of memory development and adolescent risk taking. To date she has published over 100 book chapters and journal articles and has supervised 27 PhD, 36 Masters and more than 50 Undergraduate Honours theses. She is the Associate Editor of Psychological Science in the Public Interest, Memory, the Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, and the New Zealand Journal of Psychology and is a member of the Editorial Board of Infant Behaviour and Development and of Developmental Psychobiology.
Professor Hayne is a Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand and of the Association for Psychological Science. In 2009 she was awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to scientific and medical research and in 2012 she was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from Colorado College, USA. She has been a member of the Board of Treasury and currently sits on the Board of Fulbright New Zealand.
Professor Hayne is the former Chair of Universities New Zealand, Te Pōkai Tara, comprising the Vice-Chancellors of the eight New Zealand Universities. The Vice-Chancellors meet on a formal basis six times a year and Universities New Zealand is responsible for the quality of university programmes, administers a range of scholarships and represents universities in the public interest, both nationally and internationally. She is also the Chair of the Universities New Zealand Research Committee.

Sarah Lines
Executive Assistant
As Executive Assistant, Sarah provides high-level confidential, executive support and advice and is the first point of contact for the Vice-Chancellor. Sarah manages the Vice-Chancellor's appointments, meetings, email and an extensive programme of events.
Sarah previously worked as a Personal Assistant to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic before taking up her current position in February 2016.

Eleanor Harrison
Executive Officer
Since late 2005 Eleanor has provided executive support to two Vice-Chancellors at Otago - Professor Sir David Skegg and now Professor Harlene Hayne. In her role, she has strategic oversight of the activities in the Vice-Chancellor's Office, working closely with the University's senior leadership team.
She provides governance support to the Vice-Chancellor’s Advisory Group and allied working groups which report to the Vice-Chancellor.

Chris Stoddart
Registrar & Secretary to the Council
Mr Chris Stoddart was appointed Registrar and Secretary to the Council at the University of Otago on 1 October 2018.
He provides advice on governance and policy matters and advice and support for the Chancellor, Pro-Chancellor, Council and Committee members.
He leads a team including Corporate Records Services, the University Mediator and Copyright and Open Access.
He is the University’s Privacy Officer.

Judith Thompson
Executive Officer
As Executive Officer in the Office of the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Judith manges the business of the University Council and its Committees in its annual programme of meetings. She provides executive support to the Chancellor and members of Council and administrative support to the offices reporting to the Registrar.
She acts as Secretary to the University of Otago Foundation Board and the Ethical Behaviour Committee.
