Mission statement:
To provide molecular solutions to problems in infectious diseases through the application of modern methods of molecular and translational research.
Priority goals:
- To understand the molecular basis of pathogenesis and host susceptibility of agents important in biodefence and in emerging infectious diseases.
- To understand the clinical and epidemiological trends of pathogenesis and infectious diseases.
- To expand New Zealand's capabilities of developing novel therapeutics and vaccines to treat new and emerging infectious diseases.
- To establish and support an infrastructure in molecular infectious diseases that would contain sufficient expertise and resources to rapidly respond to developments in new and emerging infectious diseases.
