Rolling Admission Dates

Potential students are able to start the online Admission process through eVision at any time. Paper/Course Enrolment for Semester 1 takes place from September to January. Semester 2 Enrolment takes place in May/June of that year. International Admissions can be a lenghty process so we advise International Students to apply as early as possible. Administration policy and procedure is managed by the University of Otago Registry in Dunedin.

Pre-enrolment

Before you enrol you should discuss your intended programme of study with the Programme Manager and return the pre-registration by email to OAMU@otago.ac.nz.

Online Enrolment

In April 2014, the University of Otago fully implemented its new online student portal called eVision. The eVision portal is your one-stop shop for study-related information. Using eVision you can apply to study, access all important study-related information including examination results, and maintain your personal information. eVision is the key system you'll use to complete the enrolment process at Otago. You'll be sent updates on how your application is progressing and/or requests if you must supply further information. Check eVision regularly for updates and messages.
You can access eVision (evision.otago.ac.nz) anytime, anywhere using the internet and mobile devices.

International Students

Complete the online application using the instructions above, however you will need to supply additional documents for your admission to the University of Otago. You are required to provide scanned copies of your previous official academic transcripts (awards gained, marks, grades). You may also be required to submit an Educational Credential Evaluators report (ECE). If this applies to you, your application will not be assessed until your ECE report has been received by the University. ECEs can take a couple of months to obtain, so start early! If you choose to submit your application through one of our approved agents an ECE report may not be necessary. Gather and scan your supporting documents before you start, ready to upload in a single PDF file.

If your first language is not English, you must provide evidence of a satisfactory level of English language proficiency to be granted entrance to the University of Otago. The English language tests we recognise are as follows:

  • University of Otago Foundation Studies Ltd: Completion of 'English for Postgraduate Academic Purposes' with a grade of C or higher
  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score of 6.5 in the academic module (with no individual band below 6.0)
  • Paper-based TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 587 with TWE (Test of Written English) 4.5
  • Internet-based TOEFL score of 95 with a minimum writing score of 22
  • CPE Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English with a grade of B or higher

Once your online application is complete, you are required to provide a 'hard copy' original or certified proof of your identity to complete your enrolment. This is usually achieved by providing a certified copy of the personal details page of your passport or a birth certificate (in English). What is a certified/notarised copy?

For more comprehensive information about enroling at Otago University for International Students, please read all the information on the International Office website.

As soon as you have completed your online application, your proof of identity document must be posted to:
