Occupational Students at TIPE come from Otago Polytechnic. Your OT placement maybe for 6 weeks (year 3), 7 weeks (year 2) or 9 weeks (year 3) depending which field placement it is. You will be based for the full time at Gisborne or Wairoa for the full placement and for 5 of the weeks you are also on the TIPE programme. During the TIPE weeks approximately 3 days a week are on OT placement. 1 day per week observing and learning from with other health professionals and 1 day doing TIPE classroom or group activities

What did I enjoy most about TIPE?
It's hard to single out one thing I have enjoyed the most. Everyone at the hospital is very welcoming and approachable. They encourage you to learn and build you up to be the best OT you can be. The other health students that are on the programme are amazing and have made this experience very enjoyable. Gisborne and the surrounding region is incredible and the weather helps too. If you have the chance to be on TIPE, keep an open mind and make the most of every opportunity.
