The Art of Palliative Medicine - 2017 Semester 2

All things important to me

For my reflection on this visit, I decided to do a piece of art. Mrs X attends the hospice once a week, and her most enjoyable activity there is craft. I thought it was quite incredible that, despite having limited time left, this group of patients were prepared to try new activities, as I so often hear, “I’m too old to learn that now”. This is why I chose to do an artwork using watercolour pencils. This is a medium I have not had much experience in, and I am certainly not an artist, but I was inspired by Mrs X’s “give it a go” attitude. I too greatly enjoyed experimenting with the watercolours and learning new techniques.

Our academic building is temporarily closed for seismic reasons but our top class teaching, studying and research programmes remain in full swing.
