The Art of Palliative Medicine - 2016 Semester 2

I wanted to create a piece of artwork to reflect Mr X’s own passion for art. The experience of clearing one’s mind and allowing a ‘stream of consciousness’ appeared to be an important and cathartic process for Mr X and painting allowed him to do this. I am not a painter but have an interest in photography and digital images and decided to use this medium to create a piece of art work in response to our conversation. A leaf is the central image because I felt that it was a clear way to communicate a sense of transition. The leaf is captured in a single moment in time- in mid fall. This both reflects Mr X’s statement about living life from moment to moment and also that our discussion was a single moment in his journey.

Our academic building is temporarily closed for seismic reasons but our top class teaching, studying and research programmes remain in full swing.
