EleMent: Mental health research

Introduction

EleMent are a multidisciplinary research group bringing together expertise in epidemiology, public health and data science with clinical and lived experience of mental distress.

We use routinely collected electronic data from numerous sources alongside qualitative methods to understand the distribution, determinants and lived experience of mental distress in New Zealand. We have considerable experience in using linked electronic data for health research, including using the Statistics New Zealand Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI).

We have considerable experience in using linked electronic data for health research, including using the Statistics New Zealand Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI). We also have particular expertise in using the Programme for the Integration of Mental Health Data (PRIMHD) collection and community pharmacy data to examine the provision of health services and the relationship between mental distress and health and social outcomes.

Our objectives

  • Producing quality research on mental health in New Zealand
  • Dual focus on using routinely collected data and hearing the voices of lived experience
  • Producing research which is directly relevant to policy and clinical practice
