The University of Otago has partnered with the Salvation Army to host New Zealand's first spirtuality and mental health symposium.
In New Zealand there is a growing awareness of increased mental health problems and suicide. Spirituality is lacking in the New Zealand mental health conversation, as an aspect that can enhance well-being, and as a resource for mental health and recovery. There is international evidence suggesting that spirituality may be a protective factor against mental distress and that it is linked with lower rates of some common mental health disorders.
