Abstract

The first project in this workstream analysed data from the ARCH Corpus of Health Interactions and Diabetes Tracking Study to obtain a picture of when and how GPs and patients actually discuss excess weight related issues (or not) during routine consultations (2009).

More recent work has focused on developing a toolkit and brief intervention for use in general practice and testing its acceptability to clinicians (doctors and nurses) and patients. This brief intervention based on repeated brief conversations around Food, Activity, Behaviour, and Support (FABS) has been piloted and evaluated in several Wellington general practices, and is the subject of our most recent publication ("'Water dripping on a stone': a feasibility study of a healthy weight management conversation approach in routine general practice consultations" published in Family Practice.
