This booklet is the second revised version, and is addressed to specific social and professional groups that are particularly relevant to the prevention of suicide. It is the product of continuing collaboration between WHO and the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP). The current update of this booklet was undertaken by the Task Force on Media Recommendations for Suicide Reporting of IASP. Professor Sunny Collings is a member of the task force.

This publication has been developed by the Ministry of Education Professional Practice Unit, based on a review undertaken by Professor Sunny Collings and Barry Taylor, University of Otago Wellington, of the 1997 guidelines for schools. The review was commissioned by Te Pou under contract to the Ministry of Health.
