Overview

Value-based healthcare (VBH) is proposed as a means of improving the effectiveness and efficiency of healthcare services. One component of VBH is measuring and comparing patient outcomes across providers or services (benchmarking) in an effort to identify unnecessary variation and promote competition for superior performance. This project involves testing the notion that patients will eventually benefit (in terms of their outcomes) if their healthcare providers participate in a benchmark group. The project could involve systematic review, a randomised controlled trial methodology, and case-mix index development.
