Below: A selection of the many cablegrams sent to Lowry's father from detectives in his employ; these, for the most part, inform him that Lowry was either suffering the effects of too much alcohol or that he needed money. The Consul's sense of being watched and reported on clearly had some foundation in Lowry's life.
