All the necessary characteristics of a book jacket are displayed in this jacket of the first edition of Timeless Land: the biographical details, the synopsis of the book on the blurb, and images and lettering, some of it suitably golden to match the land. Additional devices used to evoke that something special about the book are the extract from Brian Turner's poem Place and the statement that the introduction is by the New Zealand actor Sam Neill, who at times is also a resident in the Otago area. Modern day jackets also include ISBN barcodes, which are not found on earlier examples. The third edition contains all the above information but differs slightly with the change in colour background and lettering and a reduced image of Sydney's work. In this edition, Jenny Cooper repeated her book design input while Christine Buess executed the book cover design.
