Straight Jackets: the Art of the Book Jacket University of Otago Straight Jackets: the art of the book jacket

The woodcuts on the jacket of Frans Masereel's Laster und Leidenschaft (translated as Vice and Passion) certainly evoke the contents of this graphic novel. Masereel (1889-1972), a woodcut artist who was a pacifist in World War I, rejected any notions of 'political' art. Although unsigned, it is presumed he had input into the design of this book.
