Straight Jackets: the Art of the Book Jacket University of Otago Straight Jackets: the art of the book jacket

This jacket was designed for a range of cheap reprints of recently published books. The lettering is set in type, and the design allows space for the details of each book within its elaborate wood-engraved pattern of shooting stars in the night sky. It was constructed by Eric Ravilious (1903-1944), the British water-colour painter, illustrator and muralist.
