Appropriately, the designers of both these copies of Henry Miller's Big Sur utilize images painted by the artist Hieronymus Bosch. On the first American edition, Owen Scott has used a detailed image from the centre panel of Bosch's The Millennium and superimposed it on to a photograph by Wynn Bullock of Big Sur, Miller's home in the 1950s. The first British edition is much more vivid, using a coloured version of 'The Fountain of Life' from the left panel of the original painting at Prado Museum, Madrid. Both are equally effective, eye-catching jackets.
