Alexander Monro (secundus), Anatomical Lectures delivered by Doctor Alexander Monro, Professor of Anatomy etc in the College of Edinburgh. Winter 1773/4.

Alexander Monro (secundus), Anatomical Lectures delivered by Doctor Alexander Monro, Professor of Anatomy etc in the College of Edinburgh. Winter 1773/4. This collection of manuscripts form a set of 10 volumes titled Anatomical Lectures by Monro Secundus. The University of Otago Medical Library holds volumes 1-3, 6-9, and wants volumes 4 (now lost), 5 and 10. Evidence from Volume 10 at the Edinburgh University Library confirms that this particular set was transcribed from Thomas Thorburn's shorthand verbatim notes, rewritten in full by Mr John Wilson (Claudero) and then purchased by Secundus for £5 in Leiden in 1774. Thorburn's notes are complete because he repeatedly attended the lectures given in the years 1770/1, 1773/4, and 1774/5. Secundus then used the notes to refine and advance his own thoughts. This incomplete set is considered a most valuable source of knowledge of the day-to-day teachings at this time.
