Cabinet 13: Science Fiction & Fantasy
Science fiction is a literary or cinematic genre in which fantasy, typically based on speculative scientific discoveries or developments, environmental changes, space travel, or life on other planets, forms part of the plot or background (answers.com). Although such stories require a vast degree of suspension of disbelief, the genre has dedicated followers, and a growing fan base.
Reprints can introduce a title or author to new readers. This was no doubt achieved by these pre- and post-decimalization printings of Jody McCarter’s Expedition Void in the Popular Science Fiction. Illustrator Keith Chatto (1924-1992), the illustrator best known for The Phantom, and Skippy the bush kangaroo comics, did the ‘20 cents’ cover. Chatto’s work rate in the 1950s was about six covers a week.
