‘It was like a giant octopus, but there were no signs of either nose, mouth or eyes to be seen in the bladder-like head…’ So reads the blurb for Tom Wade’s The World of Theda (1962). And the byline for Time Trap by Rog Phillips (Roger Phillips Graham (1909-1965)) is just as scary. Part of the plot involves three-eyed aliens called Vargians who in 1999 have taken over the earth. Ray Bradley, inventor, knows their time travel secrets, but alas has fallen for Nelva, who is depicted on the cover without her red checkered house dress. One US book dealer describes the cover as one that smokes!
