Between 1950 and 1952, Horwitz published Thrills Incorporated, Australia’s first science-fiction magazine, and their success enabled them to survive the lifting of import restrictions in 1958, which put a lot of smaller business out of action. This issue promotes Jetbees of Planet J by Paul Valdez, who was in fact Alan Yates, a PR officer for Qantas.
G. C. Bleeck, another contributor to Thrills Incorporated, wrote The Metal Monster and Master-mind Menace under Belli Luigi, one of his many pseudonyms. When the cover of The Metal Monster was re-used (a usual occurrence) for Crime Flies the man had changed from spacesuit and boots to pyjamas and no shoes. The robot’s light beam had changed to X-ray vision.
