Professor Joan Taylor is Professor of Christian Origins and Second Temple Judaism at King’s College London, and an Honorary Professor at Australian Catholic University in Melbourne.

Professor Taylor is a leading authority on early Jewish and Christian history, literature, art, and archaeology, with a particular interest in the roles and experiences of women.

She is the author of several books, including:

  • Women Remembered: Jesus’ Female Disciples (with Helen Bond)
  • What did Jesus Look Like?
  • Jewish Women Philosophers of First-Century Alexandria - Philo’s “Therapeutae” Reconsidered
  • Philo of Alexandria: On the Contemplative Life (with David M. Hay)

Professor Taylor is also the editor of Jesus and Brian: Exploring the Historical Jesus and His Times via Monty Python’s Life of Brian.

The documentary Jesus’ Female Disciples: The New Evidence (with Helen Bond), has been screened worldwide since its release in 2018, and is available on YouTube.
