In The Next Steps in Management of Low-risk Cardiac Chest Pain, Eleanor will be presenting the work she completed a part of her BMedSc project. The project investigated the next steps in management of low-risk check pain.

In April 2022, Christchurch Hospital transitioned the management of low-risk chest pain patients from a cardiology-led approach to an emergency department-led approach. We compared major adverse cardiac event (MACE) rates between patients managed under the two approaches.

The study followed up with 3,679 patients for one year to assess their outcomes and evaluated the resource allocation effects of exercise stress testing.

The outcome analysis considered variables such as the management approach (cardiology-led vs. emergency department-led) and referral rates to specific testing modalities while accounting for the time to referral.

All University of Otago and Southern District Health Board staff and students are welcome to attend.
