Research

Mira trained as an obstetrician and gynaecologist in the UK and undertook research on uterine fibroids at Cambridge University during the 1990s. She subsequently worked in medicines regulation (specialising in contraception and HRT) and pharmacovigilance (monitoring the safety of medicines and devices).

From 2002 to 2013 Mira was the Director of the NZ Intensive Medicines Monitoring Programme (IMMP) at Otago University. She continued to work in pharmacovigilance internationally after the IMMP closed and has written two pharmacovigilance text books: Medicines for Women and An Introduction to Pharmacovigilance.

In 2019, Mira was elected as the first female President of the International Society of Pharmacovigilance. In Aotearoa, she is a longstanding member of the Southern Health and Disability Ethics Committee (HDEC).

Mira’s research interests continue to focus on the efficacy and safety of women’s medicines in the Western Pacific region and internationally.
