The University of Otago has launched a new brand. Find out more

Most University departments use the "Scan-to-email" functionality on their local printer/multi-function device (MFD) to email documents instead of sending of faxes.

However, if you need to receive or send a fax and don't have the means to do this in your department, you can use the centralised fax service via AskOtago. This service is available 7am – 9pm, Monday to Friday, and 8:30am – 6pm, Saturday and Sunday. Please contact Campus Watch if you need to send/receive a fax outside of these times.

The central fax number is: +64 3 479 8186.

Receiving a Fax

Ask your sender to:

  • send the fax to the central fax number (+64 3 479 8186), and
  • include your name and University department clearly on the first page

When it arrives, the fax will be converted into an email message and sent to you by the AskOtago team.

Please contact AskOtago if you are expecting a fax that has been sent to the central fax service and you haven't received it yet.

Sending a Fax

The AskOtago team can send a fax on your behalf. To do this, either:

  • email your fax to university@otago.ac.nz - attach it as a document to your email and include a coversheet with the recipient's details on it (fax number, name, etc.), or
  • bring the hard copy of the fax to the AskOtago Central Hub. Visit the AskOtago Service Portal for details on AskOtago Central Hub located in the Information Services Building, Dunedin campus

Your fax request will be logged and you will receive confirmation by email once your fax has been sent successfully.
