Research summary: Safe and optimal use of medicines, medicines communication, Māori health, health equity

Research

Karyn has a background in pharmacology and psychology, has worked broadly across pharmaceutical medicine in New Zealand and the UK and is a member of the Pharmacoepidemiology Research Network Core Academic Group.

She has a strong interest in public outreach and communication about medicines, Māori health, health inequities, and partnering with community groups to collaborate on locally relevant research projects. Her current research includes:

Interactive public outreach about the science of medicines, which aims to empower children and their whānau to have confident discussions and make informed, shared, and positive decisions about medicines
A participatory science project with Cystic Fibrosis Otago investigating safe disposal of antibiotic residue in nebulisers
Exploring the supportive care needs of Māori cancer survivors
Exploring whānau acceptability of CovidCard contact tracing technology in the Ngongotahā CovidCard trial
