Flu vaccinations are now available free at Student Health.

For some students with eligible medical conditions these are funded by Te Whatu Ora, Health New Zealand, for all other students these are funded by Student Health Services.

Influenza is not the common cold, it can leave patients very unwell and lead to serious complications. Often if you contract influenza you will be unwell for more than a week, which can be incredibly disruptive to studies, particularly as we head toward exam time. Influenza also poses significant danger to immune compromised people, babies, those who are pregnant, and the elderly.

Protecting yourself helps protect others.

Symptoms can include:

  • Cough
  • Fever/chills
  • Shortness of breath
  • Sore throat
  • Runny nose/congestion
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle/joint pain
  • Upset stomach

The flu is highly contagious and spread by breathing in droplets from the air created by a person with the flu talking, coughing or sneezing, and contact with surfaces where these droplets land.
