The aim of this research study is to explore people’s experiences of returning to sport or high intensity exercise (either social or competitive) following a heart attack.

Join our study

You are eligible to participate if you are over 18 years of age and have had a heart attack within the last two years and had a goal of returning to sport after your heart attack. By ‘sport’ we mean any type of leisure-time / social or competitive sport, such as jogging / running, cycling, swimming, squash, tennis, soccer, netball, touch rugby, or working out in a gym.

Information for participants

Participants will be asked to take place in a 30 – 40-minute interview either in person, over the phone or Zoom. Participants will also be asked to review their interview transcript and comment on the preliminary study findings if they so wish. The total time commitment for participation is approximately 1 hour. There will be no financial reimbursement provided for participation in this study.

About our programme

This study is part of a wider programme of work Supporting Physical Activity after Cardiac Events (SPACE) Programme, Research, School of Physiotherapy,  University of Otago. Through this programme of research we hope to enable the enhancement of health service delivery around supporting people to reach their physical activity related goals following heart attacks and heart surgery.
