The Women Doctors’ Fund was established in 2004.

Dr Rosy Fenwicke (MBChB, 1980) a GP in Wellington, and her contributors, have generously donated the loyalties from her book entitles, In Practice: The Lives of New Zealand Women Doctors in the 21st Century (first published in 2004), to establish the Women Doctors’ Fund.

The grant is awarded by the University Council, on the recommendation of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, to a female student who is a New Zealand citizen or New Zealand permanent resident in their 3rd year of study towards the degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Otago.  The grant is to assist the recipient with their study of medicine.

Applicants must:

  • be a New Zealand citizen or New Zealand Residence Class Visa Holder
  • be a female student
  • be in her 3rd year of study towards the degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Otago
  • Exhibit humanity, humour, courage and an open and inquiring mind
