Summer School, 2018: New international student enrolment & orientation seminars

All new international students coming for Summer School in January 2017, except PhD and Masters by thesis students, must attend a New International Student Enrolment & Orientation Seminar as soon as possible after they arrive on campus.

The main New International Student Enrolment & Orientation Seminar for Summer School will be held on Sunday 7 January at 4.30pm at the International Office.  Dinner will follow the seminar.

There will be two additional New International Student Enrolment & Orientation Seminars for late arriving Summer School students on

  • Monday 8 January at 3.00pm in the International Office
  • Tuesday 9 January at 11.00am in the International Office

MBA Summer School, 2018 international student enrolment & orientation seminar

The MBA Summer School students' Enrolment & Orientation Seminar will be held on Wednesday 24 January at 5.00pm, on the Ground Floor of the Commerce Building.

There will be an additional Enrolment & Orientation session for later arriving students on Wednesday 7 February at 5.00pm on the Ground Floor of the Commerce Building.

Please bring your passport with you to the Enrolment & Orientation Seminar, and if you have an electronic visa please also bring a paper copy of that visa.

At the seminar you will meet International Office staff and receive important information about completing your University of Otago enrolment.

Following the seminar you should be able to complete your 'Declaration', the final step of enrolment, in eVision.  Twenty-four hours after completing your declaration you can obtain your Student ID card and you will then have access to University services.

International Support staff will be available to assist you with any questions you may have.

Semester 1, GEOL 344 students

You will depart on your first field trip for GEOL 344 on Monday 5 February and return on Thursday 8 February. On Friday 9 February you are required to attend an Enrolment and Orientation seminar at the International Office.

Please bring your passport with you to the Enrolment and Orientation seminar, and if you have an electronic visa please also bring a copy of that visa.

Following the seminar you should be able to complete your 'Declaration' (the final step of enrolment) in eVision.  The day after completing your declaration you can obtain your Student ID card and will then have access to University of Otago services. 

If this time does not suit you please email Louisa.Samson@otago.ac.nz as soon as possible to arrange an alternative time.

Semester 1, GEOL 252 students

If you are an international student taking GEOL 252 in semester 1, 2018, you are required to bring your passport and visa to your GEOL 252 Preliminary Meeting on Monday 19 February.  If you have an electronic visa please also bring a paper copy of that visa.

During this meeting your passport and visa will be collected, photocopied and processed, and then returned to you at the end of the meeting.  You will be able to complete your 'Declaration' (the final step of enrolment) 24 hours after the meeting, or when you return from your field trip.

You are also required to attend a compulsory Enrolment & Orientation Seminar on Monday 26 February at 3pm, in the International Office.  If this time does not suit you please email Louisa.Samson@otago.ac.nz as soon as possible to arrange an alternative time.

Semester 1: New international student enrolment & orientation seminars

All new incoming international students, except PhD students, must register for a New International Student Enrolment & Orientation Seminar before they arrive on campus.

Please register for one seminar by selecting from the sessions below.  Except as noted, seminars will be held in Seminar Room 5 at the St David Lecture Theatre Complex (see map below).

Please note, if you are studying at Otago through one of the following Institutes for Study Abroad, you do not need to book a seminar (IFSA Butler, Arcadia, ISA, TEAN, BCA, API). You will be advised of the time and location of your special group welcome.

If you arrive before this time and have any questions or concerns, please come to the International Office, Archway West Building, between 8:30am and 5:00pm, Monday to Friday. 

 If you are a new international PhD student please check-in at the International Office Reception in Archway West Building upon your arrival and staff there will assist you to complete your enrolment.

Information sessions for new international students arriving throughout the year

If you are a new international PhD or Masters by thesis student, please check in at the International Office Reception upon your arrival. Bring your passport and visa with you.

An appointment will be arranged for you to meet with a member of the International Student Support Team who will cover arrival information, assist with completing your enrolment, and answer any questions you may have at that time. You will have an opportunity to sign up for the next PhD/Master by Thesis Welcome session.  These sessions are run twice a month.
