Emeritus Professor Frank Griffin appears on TVNZ Rural Delivery programme aiming to deliver improved productivity in deer farming systems. Professor Griffin comments that parasitism is the most important production limiting disease that affects, not only deer, but also other livestock breeds like sheep and cattle. Parasites have evolved uniquely, not to kill their host, but to co-exist to really become the ultimate pathogen. There are two major themes in the parasite research programme:
- Selection of animals with increased resistance to infection.
- Vaccination to enhance immune protection.
