Overview
Projects in the Fellner laboratory are ideal if you want work on a thesis topic where you will be the first in the world to determine the structure and function of enzymes/proteins, while also discovering inhibitors that bind to them. You will learn how to create protein crystals and determine the structure of the protein that forms it.
These projects also include measurements at the Melbourne Australian synchrotron (in person or remotely depending on your preference). In addition, you will learn to use several other biochemical techniques to characterise the structure and function of your purified proteins. A student project will focus on 1–3 proteins depending on degree level.
Projects are always in collaboration with local and international laboratories: co-supervisions (especially with the Otago Chemistry or Microbiology Department and Immunology), interactions and visits to these laboratories are options.
