The University has Muslim Prayer Rooms in the Union Building (2nd floor) in the heart of campus and in the Otago Medical School, Scott Building. The rooms are specifically set up to face Mecca and have washing facilities available.
The University offers a prayer and meditation room for people of all faiths and none. It is located on the top floor of the Union Building. Head to the top of the stairs and turn left. The room is mostly for quiet prayer and meditation but can be booked for small group prayer or Bible study.
Swipe card access is not required for the Union Building while they are temporarily located at 85 Union Place. Scott building does not require swipcard access.
The rooms should be used respectfully. In the Muslim prayer room there is a location to place your shoes and mats to use for prayer. The other room is equipped with Bibles and other sacred texts, pens and paper for personal reflection, comfortable chairs and bean bags. Please be mindful and considerate of people using the shared spaces, as you enter and exit reverently.
