Senior Lecturer
BN (Chch Poly IT) MHealSc (Otago), Diploma in Ambulance Practice (Paramedic) RN NPShirley works part time as a Senior Lecturer in the Centre for Postgraduate Nursing Studies. Her clinical background includes emergency, surgical, acute medical, primary health and palliative care nursing. Shirley's interests are in primary health and advanced nursing practice.
Shirley also has a clinical role as a Nurse Practitioner within a large integrative primary practice based in mid-Canterbury, and volunteers as a Paramedic with St John Ambulance Services.
Research Interests
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
- Self-management and long-term conditions
- Shirley has been involved in developing the pilot study for the RCT "Life balance: A feasibility study" and developed the symptom management component of this project
- Shirley is currently completing a PhD exploring the management of breathlessness in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
