Study of the theory, philosophy and practice of research in education, including a critical analysis of selected quantitative and qualitative methodologies and of historical, philosophical, sociological and Māori preferred approaches to disciplined inquiry in education.
This paper is the only introductory research method paper offered at the College of Education and focuses on enhancing understandings of quantitative and qualitative research methods and concepts. Students will participate in both regular online 'community' discussions and 'hands-on' exercises and group projects. This paper is good preparation for future academic research or work as a teaching practitioner. No prior knowledge of statistics or research methods is required to take this paper.

- Paper Structure
- The paper is arranged around several discussion conferences, each looking at a separate topic related to quantitative and qualitative research methods. Conferences normally run for two weeks and involve a combination of readings and online asynchronous discussions.

- This is an online distance learning paper.

- Students will be expected to access required readings via the library and the Internet and to source their own relevant readings.
