On completion of this paper, students are expected to demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to:
- Understand the determinants of oral health
- Understand health promotion strategies
- Understand health belief models and their application to oral health
- Understand the principles of the Ottawa Charter, and to Tititri o Waitangi in ther application to orla health promotion
- Understand the ways in which the oral health of communities can be improved
- Develop, plan, implement and evaluate an oral health promotion programme
- Demonstrate cultural understanding and the ability to implement the project in a culturally-safe manner
- Demonstrate effective communiction and facilitation skills
- Be able to critically analyse existing health promotion projects
