    Overview

    Design evidence-informed learning interventions and use teaching strategies across curriculum learning areas that demonstrate decision-making skills, reflexive practice, personal teaching growth and development.

    This paper supports student teachers to connect theory and practice in school and campus based learning opportunities. Underpinning this paper are concepts of teaching as inquiry and important values for educators, such as communication, critical thinking, cultural understanding, ethics, professional commitment and readiness, lifelong learning, self-motivation and teamwork.

    Paper Structure

    This paper has two components - a course (or "taught" component) and a professional experience component:

    • Professional and ethical role of the teacher
    • Effective relationships
    • The inquiring teacher
    • Behaviour for learning
    • Effective pedagogy
    • Managing a differentiated learning environment 
    • Engaging with te reo Māori me ngā tikanga Māori in the educational setting
    • Planning and assessment
    • Using assessment and critical reflection to develop adaptive, reflexive practices
    • Identifying and revising personal theories of teaching and learning
    • Working with whānau
    Teaching Arrangements

    It has weekly 5-hours of workshops in semester one and two hours of workshops in semester two with a tentative schedule of content that will be modified as required.

    Learning Outcomes

    By the end of this paper, student teachers will be able to:

    1.    Independently design, evaluate and sustain a learning programme informed by relevant content and pedagogical knowledge.
    2.    Demonstrate progress with te reo Māori me ngā tikanga Māori in practice.
    3.    Establish and maintain respectful and collaborative relationships with ākonga, whānau, and colleagues.
    4.    Independently gather, analyse, and interpret assessment data to inform teaching and learning.
    5.    Articulate a professional and personal teaching philosophy informed by critical engagement with theory and practice.
