    Are you interested in advancing your knowledge of one of the most important world languages? This paper aims to continue to build on basic skills in French through the study of current affairs, cultural and language topics.

    Paper Structure

    Consolidation of basic grammar, alongside the introduction of more refined grammar points and ongoing vocabulary development will contribute to students' production (both spoken and written) of French at an advanced level, assessed through a portfolio of work, created throughout the semester, on an approved topic of the student's choosing. A contemporary French novel will form the basis of FREN 334's reading project.

    A set of course materials are available for purchase from UniPrint or downloadable from Blackboard. The "French Grammar" handbook is recommended and may be purchased from UniPrint or the relevant chapters downloaded from Blackboard.

    Learning Outcomes

    Students who successfully complete this paper will be able to:

    • Communicate in French at an advanced level (B2 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, or CEFR), including aural comprehension
    • Improve pronunciation

    • Expand vocabulary in a range of cultural topics
    • Increase knowledge of French language, history and culture
