    A research methods paper providing methods, analyses and ethics used in nursing research. Content will include quantitative and qualitative methodologies. Includes a clinically applied fieldwork component.

    The paper aims to equip you with the skills that will provide the foundation for the subsequent project and the translation of research into clinical practice. Students will develop the knowledge and skills to critically evaluate qualitative, quantitative and mixed-research methodologies, evaluate and synthesise literature, and formulate a research proposal.

    Teaching Arrangements
    Taught face-to-face on the Christchurch campus 2 - 2.5 hours per week throughout the first and second semester preparing students for clinical the two clinical placements in the first semester and one in the second semester.

    1. Articulate the significance of research to the discipline of nursing in terms of integration of theory and practice and the improvement of health outcomes and service delivery

    3. Utilise research effectively to ensure a sound basis for clinical decisions
    4. Identify, review, evaluate and synthesise research literature and practice-based literature in a comprehensive and critical way accurately reflecting the state of the research field and the efficacy of nursing practice

    6. Evaluate research methodologies for the application to specific nursing/healthcare issues
    7. Critically appraise the ethical implications of a chosen research project
