- Research summary
- Occupational epidemiology and military medicine: chemical physical and environmental risk factors
- Teaching
Teaching of 2nd and 3rd year medical students and occupational and environmental medicine to medical practitioners.
I have a special interest in case based clinical teaching, especially using 'ill structured' clinical problems. I am myself trying to learn how students learn as a team.
- Memberships
A Member of the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Committee, Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
- Clinical
A special interest in complex clinical problems, with expertise musculoskeletal disorders; the effects of chemical agents including dioxins and the impact of physical agents, especially noise and vibration, on health. I try to apply this knowledge to military medicine.
Research
My professional scope of practice lies in Occupational and Environmental Medicine, a clinical discipline of which Military Medicine is a sub-specialty. A strong interest in the 'evidence base' for practice has led to a research career in Occupational Epidemiology and biostatistics. I try to put theory into practice by identifying, through 'dose response' relationships, harmful levels of occupational exposure. My belief is that such knowledge is the starting point for multifactorial approaches preventing occupational and environmental ill health.
