Research

From 1990 to 1993 I was involved in studies of diabetic neuropathy at the University of Otago Medical School in Dunedin. I was awarded my Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree with distinction in 1993 for this research.

From July 1993 to June 1998 I undertook postgraduate medical studies at the Mayo Clinic in the United States and at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London. This time predominantly involved clinical work but also involved clinical research and clinical trials in a variety of neurological subspecialty areas.

I have published papers on genetic forms of peripheral neuropathy, unusual myopathies, multifocal motor neuropathy, Sneddon's syndrome, Erdheim-Chester disease, autonomic and central nervous system manifestations of Sjogren's disease, movement disorders and a dose response study on midodrine in neurogenic orthostatic hypotension.
