Audience: Staff and Students, users of older devices that might still be configured to use proxy servers.
Description: The legacy proxy servers have been deprecated for a number of years now and receive very little use. At the end of January 2023 the systems that provide authentication services for the proxies will reach their end of support milestone and as a result it has been decided to retire the proxy servers.
Important: The vast majority of current devices connecting to the University network do not (nor should they) have proxy server settings configured. This notice is primarily informational.
The proxy servers being decommissioned are specifically:
- proxy.student.otago.ac.nz:3128
- proxy.staff.otago.ac.nz:3128
- proxy.staff.otago.ac.nz:81
