The University of Otago is launching a new brand. Find out more

Timeframe: Sunday, 7 August 2022 Onwards

Services Affected: UO_WIFI at all University Locations

Audience: all users

Description: The security certificate that protects passwords when connecting to UO_WIFI is being renewed at 7am this Sunday (7 August 2022).

Most mobile devices will automatically accept the new certificate, but previously many Apple devices have silently disconnected from the UO_WIFI network and switched to using mobile data.

Owners of all devices, but especially Apple devices are asked to please double check that your device is properly connecting to UO_WIFI when you come onto Campus after this change to avoid unexpected use of mobile data.

To check and/or reconnect to UO_WIFI, go to the “Settings” App on your device, and if necessary, select “Wi-Fi”.

You will be asked to “trust” the new certificate – check it is named “uo-wifi.otago.ac.nz” and issued by “DIGICERT TLS RSA SHA256 2020 CA1”.

Once you trust the certificate, your device will automatically connect to UO_WIFI.

Some wired connections may also validly prompt you to trust the new certificate.
