Myalgic Encephalomyelitis / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) is a debilitating (often life-long) disease that affects millions of people worldwide. It also appears to affect a significant proportion (millions) of Long-COVID patients globally. However, it is poorly understood, often misconstrued, while desperately lacking in much needed scientific research funding.

This literature-based research develops a “de novo” paradigm for ME/CFS, applicable to Long-COVID related Post-COVID-19 Fatigue Syndrome (PCFS), from a neurological perspective. It culminates with a neuroinflammatory model, centred around the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus, providing a rationale for the multiple triggers, relapses and symptoms of the disease.

It is hoped this model (published in three papers) will result in greater scientific endeavour, utilising increasingly sophisticated neuroimaging techniques, to further understand the central role of neuroinflammation in this disease.
