Entries for Otago Innovation's Proof of Concept Grant are open.

The University of Otago is strongly embracing the idea of commercialisation as a valuable way to increase research impact.

Now in its 15th year, Otago Innovation's Proof of Concept Grant offers University of Otago researchers the opportunity to 'prove' commercial applicability.

Applications opened on 31 May and this year access to $100,000 is up for grabs. An additional $50,000 is available for Health Science division applicants via the concurrently run Translational Research Grant.

Over the last 15 years submissions have included ideas ranging from human therapeutics, biomarkers, software development, communications technologies, through to improved technologies for medical or household devices.

Chief Executive Officer Otago Innovation David Christenson says the Proof of Concept Grant presents a unique opportunity for University of Otago researchers.

"In the past, several applicants each year have secured investment from us even though they didn't win the competition."

All shortlisted applicants will have an opportunity to work with a commercialisation manager to develop a presentation to an expert judging panel.

Applications close 25 June.
