In November the University of Otago's eighth Pacific Voices symposium presented the Pacific-focused research of 25 postgraduate students from across the University.
The annual one-day event is organized by the Otago's Pacific Postgraduate Reference Group, a body established in 2002 by the Pacific Islands Centre to support Pacific research students through monthly seminars and meetings. Out of these regular events came the first Pacific Voices symposium in 2004.
“This symposium highlights the uniqueness here at Otago where Pacific students are involved in a range of different areas and fields of research,” says Pacific Islands Centre Manager Tofilau Nina Kirifi-Alai. “We have seen brilliance over the years and this year was no different. The best thing about it is, if you look at people who were part of this support group and have presented over the years, you'll see they have moved on to become leaders within the Pacific region in their areas of expertise. We are supporting and growing future leaders of the Pacific and the world.”
Research abstracts are available in the Pacific Voices publication, which can be found on the Pacific Islands Centre website.
