Learning Outcomes

Biomaterials module:

  • This module is to provide advanced teaching in clinical dental materials. This will improve the understanding of clinical materials and help material selection in modern dental practice. It builds on Biomaterials in DENT261 and has particular emphasis on the application of clinical materials. Students, working in groups, will develop one of a series of topics given by the lecturer and give a group presentation to the class.

Oral Pathology in Clinical Practice module:

  • This module explores the causes, epidemiology, pathology, investigations and behaviour of oral diseases of relevance to general dental practice. It builds on the Pathogenesis of Oral Diseases section of DENT 362 and has particular emphasis on diseases of the oral mucosa, bone and salivary glands. Students, working in triplets, will follow a current case accessioned in the Medlab Dental Oral Pathology Diagnostic Laboratory and present a report to the class.

Applied Growth and Development module:

  • This module encompasses normal and abnormal growth from birth through childhood, adolescence and adulthood. It builds on the modules covering tissue growth and development in Oral Biology DENT262 and DENT362. Physical, language, social and psychological changes that occur throughout life are studied, and students will cover aspects of growth and development as they are affected by genetic and pathological conditions and present these to the class in a student-led symposium.
