At Te Koronga we supervise and train Māori research students and non-Māori researchers who wish to work with Māori communities on Māori research topics. We primarily utilise kaupapa Māori research methodologies and have a strong emphasis on praxis.
Student projects are broadly related to mauri ora, Māori physical education and health and indigenous science.

Wānanga and training opportunities
We frequently run research wānanga and hui to train our students in becoming Māori researchers. Here are some examples of the different kaupapa we lead.
Hui Monday
Every Monday from 9am–11am, Te Koronga Graduate Research Excellence students meet collectively. These sessions are our Māori equivalent of the research lab, where students hui and wānanga in relation to their research. Location: Tēnei au Te Koronga, rm 113, 55 Union St West, Dunedin.
Monthly writing retreats
Every last Friday of the month, we host writing retreats for a dedicated time to focus on writing for our students. Location: Tēnei au Te Koronga, Rm 113, 55 Union St West, Dunedin.
Te Koronga Korikori Tinana Whānau Fit
Te Koronga Graduate Research Excellence students Terina Raureti, Ben Hanara, Tukohirangi Pini, Chelsea Cunningham and Ngahuia Mita created this Te Reo Māori, hauora and physical activity kaupapa. Whānau Fit runs every Tuesday 12-1pm in Smithell's Gym. All welcome.
Te Koronga/PEMA (Physical Education Māori Association) undergraduate study sessions
To support our Māori and Pacific undergraduate students we co-host weekly study sessions. These sessions are every Monday from 5.30pm-11pm, rm 118, 55 Union St West, Dunedin.
Te Reo, karakia and waiata
Te Koronga hosts Te Reo, karakia and waiata sessions for students and staff of the School of Physical Education, Sport and Exercise Sciences to strengthen Te Reo and tikanga across Te Koronga. These sessions are every Monday from 11-12pm in Tēnei au Te Koronga, rm 113, 55 Union St West, Dunedin.

In 2019, we teach the following papers as a pathway to postgraduate study as well as preparing students for careers in Māori physical education and health, physical education, exercise, health and sport:
