Toroa College staff outstanding

Our unique living environment has a solid staff framework that fosters a genuine sense of belonging and nurturing. With a focus is on resident wellbeing we encourage connectedness, cooperation and mutual respect in the interactions we have with our residents.

We have an emphasis on expectations rather than rules, consequences rather than punishments and problem solving rather that conflict.

We consider our staff team to be safe, well trained and experienced in all manner of life circumstances. We can offer support and referrals for all manner of things that come your way during your stay with us. We can assist if/when you: need help; are not sure where to get help; want to talk about something that has happened to you; or you would like to talk about something that you are worried about.

Connections at Toroa

We are proud of the fact that residents at Toroa not only get to know one another very well, they also get the chance to know and have meaningful interactions with all the Toroa staff.

Māori concept of family

We embrace the Māori concepts of support for members of our community through the whanau (family) and hapu (group of whanau/families).

Residents in each unit form the whanau, and the Toroa community of 152 residents and staff form the hapu.
